Climate Barkhan

 

The climate of Barkhan is moderate and not very hot in summer. Dust storms are common. The winters are cold, especially when the winds blow form north-west. Storms are common and sometimes they damage crops. Precipitation has two peaks a year, the monsoon in summer en western storms in winter.

 

The annual average rainfall in the district is 514.6 mm, measured over the period 1993-95. In the same period the annual average minimum temperature was 15.6 °C and the annual average maximum temperature was 27.87 °C. District Barkhan is at an altitude of about 1200 meters above sea level.

 

Annual mean rainfall

 

Three years data on rainfall, 1993/95 (see annex 3) show great variation in precipitation. The maximum precipitation noted was 229.1 mm in July 1994, while in some months during the last three years the precipitation was zero.

 

Annual mean temperature

 

The data on maximum and minimum temperature of the same three years (see annex 3), show 38.8 0C in June 1995 as maximum and 3.8 0C in January 1995 as minimum.
