Fisheries Barkhan
Commercial fishery does not take place in the district, as only very small amounts of fish are found in the district’s rivers. The kinds of fish found in Barkhan district are raho, mori and tala. In 1992, the Fisheries Department, in cooperation with the Livestock Department constructed fish ponds at Babar Tak and Vatakari, but the results were not satisfactory.50
Department of Fisheries Development
The Fisheries Department does not have an office in Barkhan district. The staff of the office in Loralai district also works in Barkhan district.
Conclusion and major Development Issues
The scope for fisheries in the district is very limited, due to shortage of water. There are a few places, especially seasonal rivers that are filled with water of flash floods, where some fish is found. The water from these flash floods could be stored in ponds to fulfil not only irrigation requirements, but could also serve for the development of fisheries.
