Labour Force Barkhan

The major part of the labour force is engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. Tribal set-up is strong and urbanisation and commercialisation have not affected the economy of the district. Mining and industry is almost negligible, except petty trades in which very few people are engaged.

Women are traditionally engaged in household activities like cooking, washing and fetching water and wood. A very small proportion of the female labour force is engaged in agriculture. Women are also involved in looking after the animals and poultry inside the house. Lack of education facilities and social and cultural bindings are the main constraints for women’s active participation in economic activities.
