Although the Province of Balochistan in general has been generously gifted by the nature with mineral resources, in Barkhan district mineral resources are negligible. Over the last few years, Khetran Mining Company and a few other companies tried to exploit coal and gypsum, but they were not successful. At some places very small quantities of coal were found, but the work was abandoned as there was no prospect of commercial benefits. At present, a British oil exploration company is doing a survey, and it is expected that oil will be found in Vitakari and some other areas.⁵³

Private enterprise is most involved in mining services compared to other actors, but it should be noted that in absolute numbers involvement in mining services is very limited.
