Resources Killa Abdullah

 

The geographical area of district Killa Abdullah is 526,286 ha. The Reported area is 164,043 ha, which is less than 1/3th of the total geographical area. This reflects structural weaknesses and poor performance of the settlement department. Almost 10% of the total area, is not available for cultivation.

 

The potential area available for cultivation is 66,000 ha, of which nearly 42,000 ha are arable land and 21,000 ha is cultivable waste (3000 ha is under water logging or is saline). This area has potential for future agricultural development, but due to scarcity of water, the potential has not yet been exploited. The available data shows that the district is rich in forest resources. This resource could be developed.

 

The district is mountainous and includes barren lands. There is acute shortage of water in the district and wherever water is available people use it for high value cash crops like fruit and vegetables.

District-based data for Killa Abdullah is generally inadequate, weak and insufficient. The district is very poor in terms of mineral resources. The use of modern energy for light and cooking is gradually increasing, however, animal dung and fuel wood are still commonly used in the rural areas. The major problems arising from the above discussion include:

  1. Soil erosion
  2. Soil salinity
  3. Deforestation
  4. Flood water management
  5. Load shedding
  6. Ineffective cultivation of un-irrigated land
