Bolan in comparison to Balochistan
The data and other information provided so far in this District Profile, reflected the situation in Bolan District itself. It was not related to the situation in other districts or to the situation in the province as a whole. To add that perspective, indicators have been selected on which the districts are compared. These indicators can be found in the table on the following two pages. Each district can be ranked according to the indicators. The relative position of Bolan district on each of the indicators is given in the diagram on the third page; it is a bottom-up ranking: position nr. 1 means the lowest score on the indicator concerned, while position nr. 26 reflects the highest score. An overall ranking of districts is not given, since that would require to give a certain weightage to each of the indicators.
- Area wise is Nasirabad division the smallest within the province. Bolan, however, covers with its 8,036 sq.km 47 percent of the divisional area and therefore is the largest district of Nasirabad division. Population wise it is the second largest within the division. Within the province Bolan is among those with the highest population density. The female population is higher than the male population.
- Agricultural and livestock statistics are not available for Bolan as according to its current administrative area. Based on the statistics according to the administrative boundaries of the former Kachhi district Bolan seems among the highest with potential for agricultural development, provided that irrigation water will be made available. Currently Bolan district finds itself in the middle among the districts as far as agricultural production is concerned and among the lowest as far as fruit production is concerned.
- Similarly Bolan district ranks amongst the highest in terms of the availability of pasture land for its livestock. It seems that Bolan has potential for further livestock development, although here too rainfall and or irrigation water are limiting factors.
- In terms of primary school enrolment Bolan district ranks amongst the lowest, both for boys and for girls. Statistically the quality of education could be good as the pupil/teacher ratio is rather low as well, but as indicated above, the discipline among teachers shows a different picture.
- The supply of health services show a gloomy picture as the population per doctor ranks among the highest, while the situation for women is even worse with no female doctors at all.
- The water supply situation ranks very low as little information is available about the coverage of the water supply services.
- The road density ranks in between the middle and lower parts within the province, but here too not sufficient information is available to draw clear conclusions.
