Apprenticeship and Child Labour Jhall Magsi

The people of Jhall Magsi depend on agriculture. On the one hand the economy of the district is poor and on the other hand the size of the family is large. Therefore, the help of the children is needed. Hence, children of different ages provide help. But with the passage of time the percentage of children helping out has decreased. The situation is changing due to a variety of factors, of which education is the most important.. Nowadays, every village has a school for different levels of education. Therefore, parents prefer to send their children to school. Whenever the children are free, they may give a helping hand, e.g. by bringing water, collecting firewood or bringing meals for their fathers to the fields. There is no carpet making industry or activity in the district. Very few children are involved in brick making or tailoring. Girls help their mothers in household activities like cooking meals. They also help bringing in additional income by embroidering dresses and caps, for sale.
