Institutional history Jhall Magsi

The period from independence till 1958 is considered to be an inactive period of the local government system. Local government institutions were established in 1959. These institutions were the consequence of the Basic Democracies Ordinance (BDO). Local government institutions established in 1959, continue to function till 1969. Then these institutions were banned and ultimately the basic democracy system was abolished. In 1979 the present local government system was introduced, through an ordinance called Balochistan Local Government Ordinance. Present local government finds its legal basis in article 32 of the Pakistan constitution of 1973. Since 1979, the local government system has been functioning without any break up to the 18th of December 1996, when all local government institutions in Balochistan were dissolved for new elections to be held in 1997. Currently the local government institutions work under supervision of government officials.
