Law and Order Kalat

The Deputy Commissioner of Kalat is responsible for the maintenance of law and order in the area. He also exercises the power of District Magistrate.

Kalat district is a very peaceful area of the province. During the year 1996 only 45 FIRs were registered of which 2 concerned a murder, 3 related to road accidents, 8 were about drug abuse, 6 about thefts, 4 about arms and 22 were regarding general disputes. People go to the notable persons to get their problems solved, while in serious cases the Jirga decides the issues. Cases are often not reported to the police station. In Kalat, a civil court and a Qazi court are also functioning to administer justice to the people. There are 8 police stations in the urban areas, while the levies are responsible for maintaining law and order in the rural areas of the district. The district is quite safe for both Pakistani and foreign travellers.
