Political Parties Kalat

Kalat district has always played an active part in politics. From 1983 to 1996, Jumiat-Ulma-l-Islam (JUI) held all the provincial and national assembly seats in the district. Prior to JUI National Awami Party (NAP) was popular, later on replaced by Balochistan National Movement (BNM). Before the elections of 1997, a new group emerged successfully from a merge of several smaller groups called the Balochistan National Party (BNP). Other parties active in the district include Pakistan’s People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Group. All of these parties have influence in the educational institutions. Student organisations, particularly Baloch Student Organisation (BSO), and Jamiat-e-Tullaba-e-Islam (JTI) are very active. It is interesting to note that none of the political parties have a women’s wing in the district. However, there are a few women active in the PML(N).
