Soils Kalat

The district is a mountainous area intersected by broad valleys. The soil of the district is fertile, both in irrigated and unirrigated tracts. Among the unirrigated tracts, the soil of Narmuk is the most fertile of the district. It may be regarded as a fairly uniform quality of soil. The best quality of soil has a reddish color and is called malt or matmal. The second quality of soil, known as siahzamin, is a dark loam generally found in the irrigated areas of Kalat. Malt is best for the cultivation of wheat. Other well-known soils are ‘Karkat’, ‘Thathakhari’, or ‘Sani’, yall or kher, korki and dagi but these are of inferior quality.
