Loralai Resources

The total geographical area of the district is 993,300 hectares which is 100% reported. The arable land is 149,246 hectares, which is 15.04% of the total geographical area. Out of the total arable land 106,275 hectares are current fallow which is 71.21% of the arable land. The area net sown is 42,971 hectares wihich 28.79% of the arable land.

Since agriculture statistics of 1994-95 does not provide figures about culturable waste one cannot calculate the figure for potential area available for cultivation. The figures given in agriculture statistics are the combined figures for Loralai, Barkhan and Musa Khel, because Barkhan and Musa Khel were part of Loralai district earlier.

The population census scheduled to be held, in 1991 has not taken place, therefore the data which could have been obtained through this census, are not available. Beside the statistics and data that are available are inadequate, often unreliable and often lack details.

Similarly data on social and economic indicators are not complete and figures for many aspects like saving and investment and unemployment are not available. Therefore economic analysis and projections are not possible. The data regarding sources of energy, consumption and use are not available, therefore issues pertaining to this sector cannot be analysed properly. The area not available for cultivation is very large compared to the arable land. The cultivable waste is the potential area but it is not properly used. Better utilization of the land could increase production as well as the income of the people. Due to shortage of water the virgin land remains un-utilized.

The low literacy rate of the district makes it difficult to use modern technology for improving production and the exploitation of resources.

Paucity of funds, make it difficult to construct infrastructure and carry out studies for mineral exploitation.
