Sibi in comparison to Balochistan
The data presented so far in this District Profile essentially refer to
the situation in Sibi district only. They have not been related to the situation in other
districts or to the situation in Balochistan as a whole. To add this perspective, 32
indicators have been selected on which the districts can be compared among themselves and,
in many cases, with the overall province. Those 32 and other indicators are given on the
next two pages. Each of the 26 districts can be ranked on each of the indicators. The
relative position of Sibi district is given in the diagram on the third page. It is a
bottom-up ranking: position nr. 1 means the lowest score on that indicator, position nr.
26 indicates the highest score. An overall ranking of districts have not been given, since
that would have required to allocate a certain weight to each of the indicators.
- Sibi district takes with its area of 7,796 square kilometers a middle position in terms
of size. The population however belongs to the lowest four, what makes the district a
elatively less densely populated one. The estimated growth rate is a percent lower than
the average in the province.
- On many of the agriculture related indicators the district holds a position in the
middle (cultivated area, overall production, fruit production); it scores higher than
average on the value of the agricultural produce, most probably due to the share in the
total produce of fruits and vegetables.
- Sibi district takes a relatively low position with regard to number of livestock units
and the much higher ranking regarding the available pasture per livestock unit. The
density of livestock is still comparatively low. This might indicate that an even more
important role of this sector in economic life is possible.
- The educational indicators are relatively good. The enrolment figures for both boys and
girls are comparatively high and the ratio between the number of pupils and the number of
teachers comparatively low.
- The same can be said of the health sector. The population per bed - and per doctor
ratio, are relatively low, while there is a relatively low male/female ratio among doctors
and paramedic staff.
- The coverage of the population as far as water supply scheme is concerned belongs to the
top four in the province.
- On both the density of metalled and shingle roads Sibi takes a position just above the
middle.
